My limited collection

Post by Crystal » Sat Feb 11, 2006 2:37 pm

At this time I just have a few gouldians (which are breeding), but I also have 3 cats and 2 corn snakes. The cats find the finches and the snakes very entertaining, but they are all kept quite safe (and separate) from one another.

Regards,

Crystal

HI!

Nice forum you've set up here Crystal. It's always nice to have another forum to visit.

At the moment I have 2 canaries (singing hens), a zebra pair, a strawberry pair, a cb pair, a society pair, a shaft-tail pair, a gouldian pair + 2 extra gould males. In addition to the birds, I have a cat, a dog and a horse. Also, I volunteer with the Humane Society and often do fostering.

Hi!!

We have 1 gerbil, 11 zebra finches (6 of them juvies), 4 cordon bleus (with 5 eggs), 2 lavender waxbills, 4 indigo finches, and 2 firefinches.

The human population is a minority in this household!

My feathered friends consist of 7 zebras (hens), Spice pair, CB pair, Shaft-tail pair, Orange-Cheeked waxbill pair (may both be male - not sure), 3 Societies, a black-headed nun, and a pair of happy budgies!

The furry/other family members consist of two dogs, a cat, three hamsters and two tanks of fish.

Needless to say, there's fur and feathers all over the house!

Hi Hilary,

Are you the same Hilary over at finchworld that was asking about the deaths of your society chicks? If so, I am sorry to hear that they didn't make it. Also, I don't think air sac mites was the cause. Society finches are generally considered resistant (not susceptible) to air sac mites, and in fact are often used to "break the cycle" by raising gouldian chicks into air-sac-mite-free adults. I can create a post in the "health" forum on this site if you are interested in other possible causes to consider. I have an exam tomorrow morning, so the post will have to wait until tomorrow evening.

Let me know if you need that information!

3 Societies

Crystal -

That's me! That's a great idea - I'd really appreciate the help, though didn't want to overload the forums with the question. If I did something wrong or could have done something else, though, I'd love to know so it doesn't happen again. I felt so bad - they were doing so well! My societies have a special place with me - they're so calm, and did such a wonderful job with the little ones.

Love the site, and good luck on the exam!

I am very new (Jan 2005) to the Lady Gouldians and Societies but I have raised NG Zebra's off an on for over 25 yrs. Most of my birds are housed in a climate controlled Bird House 18'L X 12'W. The Ladies and Societies are paired in individual cages 30x18x18 except the julvies. They are in a Flight Cage 84"L X 48"H X 24"D. There are eggs in some of the Ladies nest boxes...

In the Bird House:
28 Lady Gouldians
17 Societies mostly Crest

In my home:
4 Lady Gouldians (the Old Hags)
2 Diamond Doves.
2 Button Quails
1 American Singer Canary

Update.
Gave the Diamond Doves and Button Quails away yesterday. Didn't have enough time to take good care of them.

Hi, I have one canary (3 years), a pair of European Goldfinches, one cat and one Yellow Lab. I just completed an outdoor aviary. I'm waiting for a "bird expo" in May. I want a pair of Gouldians and a pair of Owl Finches. I'm not interested in breeding. I just enjoy them

Hi All,

We have 2 zebras and a clutch of 3 new little ones for a total of 5. These are our first finches and I just love them.

I also have a Violet-Necked Lory and a European Starling named Ugly. Ugly came to me 2 years ago this May. She fell threw the ceiling at work and I have raised her from a featherless baby to a happy adult.

Furred babies are: 2 dogs Bob (black Lab) and Junior (wiener dog), 2 cats Baby and Freak

I also have a Mississippi Map turtle and tons of fish.

Look forward to learning more and seeing the board grow.

Crystal, I just was looking at the pics of your new owls (grats!!!) and since I was already green with envy, decided to look at your pics of their new cage again.

Is that an optical illusion or is your black and white cat the size of a small pony? hehe

Haha, he is definitely not as big as a small pony, but I suppose he's on the large size for a cat. It's probably the angle the photo was taken from or something. :)

Hi, everyone!
I have two pairs of zebra finches, and I've only had them about a month. They are so cute!

I have one parakeet. His name is Kirk and he's lonely, so I think I'm going to get another one soon for his company.

I also have an Old English Sheepdog, Fletch, and four cats. (The cats are locked out of the bird room.)
