Zebra Finch Mutations?

Post by Bev » Tue Jan 15, 2008 11:44 am

I have some pictures of a couple of my zebra finches. I would love it if someone could advise what mutation they are. I have another one that I'm not sure of, but I don't have a clear pic of him.

This is Georgie who seems to be a normal grey hen, but has a black strip across her chest that my other grey hen doesn't have. Is she a normal grey that just has an extra stripe?? She has recently hatched a clutch with the next one. http://www.finchforum.com/gallery/displ ... p?pos=-481

This is Chuck who was sold to me as a Charcoal mutation. I have looked at charcoals on the internet and they all seem to have the white spots on their flank which Chuck doesn't have. He still has the orange cheek patches, so he can't be a black face. He has me rather confused.

This is Tiger. I originally thought she was a Fawn, but now I'm not so sure. Maybe I'm looking at too many pictures.

These are all my Zebs. From left to right they are: Chuck, Georgie (partially hidden), Dorothy (yes he's a male, named by my 3 year old Wiggles fan.), Tiger (rear), Charli (front) and Pepe. Dorothy has a lighter beak than the other 2 males, but otherwise looks like a normal grey. http://www.finchforum.com/gallery/displ ... p?pos=-480

And just because I haven't asked enough questions, does anyone have any ideas as to what would come from the Chuck/Georgie nest?

Thank you in advance for any light you can shed on my favourite distraction!

Bev

To me it looks like you have a normal grey, a split charcoal maybe, and she looks like a fawn to me....

I can't really tell from the pic, but I have a BC female and if you look at her up close she actually has a few black breast bar feathers. Few but they are there. Your female may have a BC gene somewhere. Just a thought.
