I planted some bird seed. A bird came up. Now I don't know what to feed it.

I had a pair in my petshop at regular price, but was good and passed them up even though they're such handsome birds. Now just the hen is there - now who would take one and leave the other? :?

Practical! I just always feel sorry for the single left behind without a "mate" (maybe bonded, maybe not). Of course, I definitely benefit when somebody buys the "really blue bird" and leaves the female cordon bleus behind......

One day I might get a pair. They are never in any shop where I live, selection is scarce on most finches.

I get most of my interesting finches from either importers, dealers, or breeders. Sometimes I'm lucky and find them locally, and sometimes I have to ship. It's rare that I'll see what I want in a pet shop, but then, those were really cute black cheek zebs!

I have thought about buying and shipping. I know plenty of people here have, but for some reason I'm a bit iffy on shipping a bird for $40+, then the cost of the bird. I could end up spending $150 on a bird thats $30? Then again I may not have much of a choice. At least I would know that the bird comes from an actual breeder and not someone who breeds to profit from local pet stores.
