Orange weavers molt...

Post by kittani79 » Mon Mar 31, 2008 6:10 pm

When male orange weavers molt back into their off-season plumage, is it normally a big deal? I mean, is it normally gradual or do they drop a bunch of feathers at once and look scraggely for a bit?

I have not had weavers, but I have a feeling that any of the species that do a big color change start looking pretty scruffy. It is that way with my male Strawberries, which do a huge color change. One is going out right now, and he looks like moths got to him!

Weavers are pretty aggressive. I wouldn't.

They go through the molt quite quickly.

jamezyboo21, not only are they aggressive, they're almost twice the size of a zebra as well!

Well then i sm definently not getting them. petsmart is selling there orange weavers for $35 but i found a nother petshop only sellin them for $7. i was thinking bout getting a pair put in a seperate cage. that is a big price difference and for $7 a piece i wouldnt mind getting a pair.

The weaver in question is finally showing little pin feathers all over. Seriously this guy looked like he'd flown through a fan.

He's definitely going into his off-season colors.
