I don't know if this helps anyone, but I've heard it is easy to sex Javas by looking at their beaks and eyes, but haven't seen any sensible explanation of this until I found this link

http://www.javafinch.co.uk/sex/sexndx.html

So if I'm not the only one out there unable to sex my Javas by looking at them I hope this helps. Also I've never heard a Java sing in a Pet shop or at a breeder because the birds are always nervous so this will help you selecting a pair of Javas.

I didn't know if Riff & Raff (2 of my Javas) were male or female until about a month ago, thats when their beaks started to change (they are both still under 1 year old). They are both males, I am sure of it. They are starting to experiment with songs now, pretty cute.
