Peace in the Aviary!

Post by rkn » Wed Apr 30, 2008 9:50 am

I re-homed all of the original zebras and finally there is peace in the avairy! yayaya! My remaining zebra female got a great home with a lone male so she's in heaven I am sure...lol So new avaiary rule, no zebras ever again. Honestly i kind of miss them but don't miss their disruptiveness. The other birds seem happier as well. Peace is upon them.

I had to do the same thing. Did it make you feel kinda guilty? It did me.
But all the other birds get along so much better when they are not around stirring up so much trouble. :)

I did feel sad to have to loose her but she got a great home and has her own new boy friend! It was a lessoned learned for me since I just got started in finches in Jan. So learn as you go but will not mix the passive types ever again with the pushy one. Some may have better luck but not me.

You may feel a little guilty letting them go, but think how much better life will be for the rest of the flock. I love having the more passive species and seeing how they interact (without fighting).

I never really have problems with my zebras but if i could start all over i wouldve breed gouldians as my main finch there a lot more attractive and are able to mix with many other finches. i hear a lot about zebras being pushy and that makes me very watchful and im always checking to see if there pushing around the other finches.

I'm glad peace is at the order of the day again. Good job on finally getting rid of the "problem birds".

Now before all Zebra lovers jump onto my head, I will always have a place for a pair or 2 of zebras in my breeding cages but they are definitely staying out of my mixed aviary as well. I will not get rid of my wonderful black cheek pair and they are one of my favorites, but they have their own breeding cage where they can do what they want and at this stage its breeding, like zebras know of anything else to do.

im gonna eventually build another cage just for the zebras and have the other finches in a cage together away from the zebras.
