So after reading some psots about the various color variations of lady gouldians, well what is the general public take? Personally i LOVE them ALL! I mean all the colorvariations, but then again I am a newbie learning...
So let me ask...what if any color variation of gouldians would you want first? second? etc? which are considered rare? Personally I love the blue back ones I have seen and want many...lol but am a dreamer too...And the yellow head one, omg is there anything nicer?
So what is in demand breeder wise? how about just plain old newbie -wise. How much per pair or single are you paying and where are you located? I am about ready to add gouldians to my aviary after some reserach but found i still know little and what are the most common and most rare birds today????
just for fun psot please....

Here are some pictures of mine. I have to say my favorite is the yellowback. They are all of course beautiful. I personally do not care for the diluted ones. I know they are more expensive. I am looking for a blue back one. When I go to the bird mart the normals are usually about 75.00 or so. The yellow and blue ones are between 100 and 150. Its seem here the hens are more than the cocks.

Gouldians are an addiction...plain and simple...lol! Once you get one pair and discover how many different color combinations there are...you want them all!
I get the most request for Red Head / Purple Breast / Normal Back Gouldians.
I love the Black Head / Purple Breast / Blue Back Gouldians - which is what I breed for exclusively with my Blues - and also get the most request for when a buyer is looking for Blue Backs.
I'd have to say my personal favorite though is an Orange Head / White Breast / Yellow Back...just beautiful!
The more rare Gouldians are the Pastels and Silvers - in my opinion.
Prices vary quite a bit depending on location. I am near chicago and the price for normals around $70 and $150 for Blues.

I've seen a black headed, white breasted, silver back. It was pure white, however if you look closely, the white breast is really white. Sounds boring because there isn't any color, but it's beautiful in person.
My favorite is the black headed, white breasted, blue back. I'll agree with Tammy on the yellow headed, white breasted yellow back...those are pretty stunning.
Every bird that I've seen that are identical colors, still don't look the same. Depth of color, beak size and shape, shape of head are all different from each individual.
The reason why hens are more expensive than cocks, is because the ratio of cocks to hens is higher in most clutches, except for L of Ontario!

This site will show you nearly all the colours...I personally don't care for most of the mutations and prefer the colours of the wild birds with one or two exceptions.

I know that there is a great demand for mutations and I must say that some variations are stunning but nothing beats the original colours.

Wow great link! I never knew there were so many different color variations. I can see why the pastels are in big demand, quite lovely.
So can any of these color combo's mate and produce new color combos? Seriously confusing trying to understand who has what gene. lol But sure makes me want to get some gouldians. Anyone know any breeders in CO. or Ne.
