Owl Finch info please!

Post by katlovesaandw » Sat Dec 20, 2014 12:42 am

Ok, I have been drooling over Owl Finch.
Can't afford them around here.

Ended up with a lady who had a pair and one died. She didn't want the other anymore and I got it for a STEAL.

Done the quarantine thing away from my societies and it will eventually share the giant flight cage with them.

I think it is a female. Does the meep sound but no real singing yet.

Eventually, I would like to get it a mate. Any recommendations on where? Anyone order one and have it shipped?

Oh and I played the owl finch sounds at the Finch Info Center, it said nothing during the cock singing part but when I played the hen calling sounds, it went nuts and made the same sort of sounds back.

Does that mean it is a female and happy to hear sounds of fellow females OR a male that just hasn't sung and copy catted the same sounds.

More helpful info from Owl finch owners would be great! Thanks!

It can be pricey to ship just one bird. Here are a couple of bird clubs that are in the Pacific Northwest, though not in Portland itself. They might be resources for breeders, though.

Thanks! I contacted Pacific Finches to see if they have a male available.
Contacted our local bird store, but they only sell theirs in pairs and want $200 for a pair. Ummmm, no. I just need 1 bird.

She still hasn't sung, just makes meep sounds so I still assume we are a female. Doing well in with my societies but I am sure it will be happier with a mate.

I have several male and female owl finches from last years (2014) breeding. I live in Texas, but I have the shipping containers, so if you are interested pm me.
