Hi everybody. Let me tell you our curent situation
We have 3 cages. One large and two 30x18x18 flight cages.
Started with a pair of ob waxbills and a pair of green singers in the large f030 aviary cage, then when green singers had eggs we had to move the ob waxbills to a 30x18x18 cage and then gs baby boy ended up in the same cage with ob waxbills.
While going on a vacation a momnth ago we moved the gs pair to another 30x18x18 cage and didn`t move them back to their large cage (our friend had to take care of the birds and we were scared she`d let the birds out while changing the food and waster when we were gone.)

This is the aviary cage that is empty.

What we have in mind is moving the ob waxbills and the male green singer baby (18m old now) to this aviary cage and adding a pair of strawberry finches and a pair of cordon bleu finches. So total of 7 birds in this cage. Is this too much? Also would these birds be compatible?

My wife doesn`t want more than 2 cages. Also we don`t want to give away any of the birds but also want more birds lol Life would be very easy of green singers didn`t get aggressive or pushy.

Another side question: Did anyone try green singers and lavender waxbills? a pair of each in same flight cage?

Hello green singers are a great bird to a collection but you have found out about their bad side, aggressive and especially during breeding time so cage mates would consider another bully type but with a big space.
As for the large cage I would consider 1 pair or 2 at total max especially when breeding birds as young also need space to become independent.
I have kept strawberry finch as well as ob's and cordons and have had little problem in a mixed flight but with breeding and cages they can have a different temperament as well as induvidual birds have different temperaments. Strawberry finches and ob's are able to cross breed so these together can lead to a hybrid which is undesirable to a lot of people so I would consider the cordon on that merit.

I am thinking more of a visual cage than breeding, considering lack of space we have, breeding will be the goal when we buy our own house.

So we are thinking of a non breeding cage of mixed species.
What would you suggest to house together in a non-breeding cage?

considering we have
1 pair green singer
1 pair ob waxbill
1 male green singer


birds we consider;
strawberry finch
blue capped cordon bleu
lavender wax bill red tail
fire finch
red cheeked gordon bleu
strawberry finch

So far male gs and a pair of ob waxbills are doing find cos he is with them since he is 30days old.

I`d like to add another pair to the cage of green singer parents.

Also maybe a 3rd cage that will house 2 pairs.


I am also ok to get new cages and sell my current cages.

metinemre...I have had RCCB's and currently have BCCB's...I do not recommend them for a mixed flight. The males become very aggressive during breeding season, even in non-breeding flights...even if there are NO HENS and NO NESTS in the flight. They cause housing issues like zebras and Green Singers. In my mixed flight I have 2 Male Gouldians, 2 Male Stars (1 yellow face & 1 red face), 1 M/F pair of owls, 1 Green Singer hen (offspring from my pair that must be housed alone due to males aggression) and a BCCB hen (male is housed separately with a tail plucking society male). I recommend Owls, Stars, Gouldians and Gold Breasted Waxbills

One idea: Would interconnecting the 30x18x18 cages solve any problems?

That would give you two cages to make wife happy, but you wouldn't lose space. (Though it would be best to connect them side by side vs. on top, as finches prefer horizontal length over height)

Mia i thought about that but since cages are in living room she wants something looks nice too, I will keep 30x18x18 cages in storage for the future in case a pair needs privacy to breed etc. And sell the f030 prevue flight.

Still debating but i guess we will get 2x 36x20x22h or 48x20x24h euro cages from corners limited.

Since we have the 48 inch wide option now, seriously thinking about adding 2 more pairs.
So it will be
cage1: green singer pair + new ??pair
cage2: waxbill pair + gs male + new ??pair.
Question is which pair with what?

Having ob's I wouldn't consider strawberry finch as these can cross breed resulting in a hybrid which is next to useless. Cordon or a blue cap maybe the way to go or red billed fire finches as these are usually placid and cause next to no issue.
