So today was the first day our new babies woke up in their new homes.
All day was constant chirping non stop until they fell asleep. chirping was coming from the cage where strawberries and lavenders housed together but not sure which one was chirping. Is it normal for lavender or strawberry to chirp all day nonstop?
Where we purchased them, they were in large flocks in their aviaries. Can it be something like; one crying and calling out for the mate that is no longer with him/her?

Re: Non stop constant chirping :o
I've never had lavenders or strawberries chirp non-stop.
I'd say they're similar to gouldians in terms of frequency. Semi often, but not super frequent like a zebra.
You could definitely have one or more birds who was separated from a mate and they're upset and calling for them (Oh, how sad is that?! Getting separated from your love! So sad.
)
I'd say this is quite likely, in fact.
Is it a distressed, sharp vocalization? A call for a mate tends to be sharp and it actually sounds distressed.
A normal, everyday vocalization doesn't have that sharpness. It sounds "lighter" and happier, if that makes sense?

Re: Non stop constant chirping :o
metinemre maybe they are nervously chirping? Usually it's the opposite, but a thought.

Hi.
My Strawberries, are actually very quiet birds, other than when Trystan sings. He has a lovely song, but usually only at sunrise and sunset. Iso, rarely has much to say.
I don't have Lavenders, so can't comment.
I would think that its a big change for them to be in a new strange place, especially going from an Aviary into a cage. I think Brian maybe spot on that they are nervous, and it's also quite possible that being seperated from the flock, mates, siblings etc is unnerving. However, if all is well with them, it shouldn't take them too long to adjust and settle down. I would keep a careful eye on whether they are eating and drinking. See if you can actually catch them on the water and seed cups, to make sure that they know where everything is, especially the water.
If it continues however, I would get on the phone with your breeder and ask for his advice. He should be more than willing to offer suggestions.

Re: Non stop constant chirping :o
delray - I'd thought of this too. Nervous chirping.
I didn't mention it because you're right - they're usually super still and silent when nervous or frightened. But nervous chirping is certainly possible, as it's another way to approach the situation.
It's a bit like a human's options in dealing with a bear. You can try to be super still, hide in plain sight, hoping the bear doesn't notice you or thinks you're dead.
Or you can scream and yell at the bear, hoping he'll be frightened off by the nutty human who's causing one helluva ruckus for no apparent reason, thereby disturbing the poor bear's afternoon snack at the berry patch.
Nutty humans.
Agreed with lovezebs.
I would definitely make sure they're eating and drinking. That's super important, especially for new birds. I've heard of birds getting very ill because they're faced with food/water containers of a different style from what they're accustomed to using. So this is key.
As long as they're eating and drinking and appear well (e.g. not fluffed and lethargic), then I wouldn't be too worried.
