Java Colony ~ Differnet Mutatations

Post by cindy » Thu Apr 09, 2015 8:01 am

I own a fairly good size flock of javas which were recently moved to a large indoor walk in aviary. Breeding pairs are pulled and individually cage breed. I own normal, fawns, silvers, fawn silver splits, opal Isabel.

The walk in provides them a place to exercise and rest after breeding.

I also own Dark Eyed Whites which are all white normal pieds. In the aviary roosting bars are given along with different sized doweling so they can exercise their feet.

I have been considering getting some javas. They look like they would be entertaining, and I like the sounds that they make. I prefer the normals.

cindy They are beautiful!

@KarenB I can't remember if any vendors had Javas in Houston, but a few breeders are working with them in Texas, Su Yin among them. There used to be a vendor that had a large selection of them, but he did not attend the Cleburne mart last fall and has not reserved a table for our May mart, so he may have given up on our market.

There are several individual breeders of java in Texas that I know of.

Thank you everyone for the nice comments!

cindy - Thank you for all your pictures. They sure are lovely birds! I wish they were legal in CA! I would love to get a pair.
Iso

BTW, does anyone know what would happen if you got caught with some in CA?

Since it is a federal law I suppose there can be a fine per bird/offense and possibly jail time. Your birds may likely be confiscated. My thought is why tempt fate and risk it.

isobea I wouldn't be a bit surprised if a few people in CA actually have Javas, but they would keep it very quiet. Knowing how paranoid the state of CA is about everything, I would imagine they have very hefty fines. I wouldn't put it past them to confiscate the rest of a person's birds too, so not worth the risk IMO.

KarenB - I will certainly have some Javas at the Cleburne Mart if you come up. I may phase them all out as I've had no luck breeding the silly things...

Or I may do some more shuffling and set up even more pairs to see if I can't get a successful clutch...

A young silver java fledged today, the sibling (also a silver) is still hiding in the box.

They are lovely Cindy. If I had more room, I would definitely consider some of them. They look curious and intelligent.
