Oh my, what beautiful birds... I love the way the two in the top photo are standing, I think it is the cutest thing when my finches do that... kind of spread their legs... it completely changes their shape, it's so funny! But those two on the bottom... WOW, and I'll be willing to bet, this photo doesn't even do them justice!! Just lovely, lovely birds. Congrats on eggs, and good luck with them!!! Definitely keep us posted, and we LOVE photos!!!!

Hm, my hens have always sat tight from the first egg on.

Goodluck, pretty birds there.

They shouldn't start to sit till the third or fourth egg.
If that is the case, the first chick will be much bigger than the last chick hatched. The last one will not be fed properly.

Well my one hen only ever raised one chick and my hen now has yet to ever hatch a fertile egg so that hasn't been an issue.

Additionally I doubt it would be a problem, as my current hen sitting now, in the event she hatched chicks this time around, has a devoted mate who feeds the young well and helps the hen considerably.

congrats on the start
talking about differences on chicks what i always do is use fake eggs and store the real one under a cabinet where there's no light and humidity.
Then when the 4th egg is done i put back the other 3 and remove the fake ones.
the chicks all hatch the same time

Hi, Did your red pair build the twiggy looking nest or did you provide it for them?

Very beautiful birds! And five eggs?!?! How many eggs do canaries usually lay? I have a male and would like to get another male because I love their song. Can I keep two males (no hens) in a large mixed outdoor aviary without any fighting? I've been wanting another but hesitate because I've never had more than one.

Let me know what you think. And let us know about the babies when they hatch too. Best of luck and keep the photos coming! LOVE the Red Factors!
