I have had a female gouldian and cordon bleu male as pal "cage mates" for a couple of years now. They get along just fine together. I have an older male gouldian finch that I was thinking of putting in with them now, as his "cage mate" died. I had tried pairing this male and female gouldian several years ago, but she did not like him back then. Any thoughts on how this might work out. They are in a small table top aviary, so space should be large enough for all three. Would these males of different species likely get along?

Hi Anne.
I would try to place cages side by side, and see how they react to each other.

If the Cordon male considers the Gouldi female as 'his', you might run into some problems there.

My advice, would be side by side for a while, just to aee how things go.

Agreed with lovezebs!

Trios can be tough. Some work out really well. Others are disastrous. There's almost always an odd man out. I'd say that's pretty likely to happen here since you have an already-bonded pair.

Or, things could go the other direction and the two gouldians could bond, angering the CB, who will feel as though his mate was stolen away.

If you do try to integrate, remember to rearrange the cage when you integrate the new bird to redraw the property lines. That will prevent some territorial issues.

I'd say the chances are high that you'll need a fourth bird but give it a go and see what happens. Never hurts to give it a try!

I have not tried putting them together yet. They are all molting right now and I decided it would be better to wait until they are done, to add any stress to them.
