not a female?!?!

So the juvenile gouldian I purchased back in April, and was told was a female, has been singing like crazy to my male goudian and hopping up and down. So I'm thinking it's a male, not a female. Is that right? Do females hop up and down like that? I know I've seen males do it in the past, but never a female.

I can see how someone might suspect a juvenile male, but how did they suspect it was a hen?

That's def a male. Females don't sing. I have seen them mimic the males with the head shaking and hopping but I've never seen a female sing.

A boy.

That happened to me once too; I bought a female pastel/silver and it turned out to be a male. Best little dad ever

That's the problem with buying uncolored juveniles, or can some of you Gouldian breeders sex the birds before coloring up (without singing as a give-away).

Thanks for the responses! At least now I know, so I can get a couple of females in the future.
