Question About Senegal Fire Finches

Do Fire Finches sing?
I have two males, they get along fine with each other and the other varieties of finches they are housed with.
They are at the tail end of their molt and seem otherwise healthy.
I've had them for almost three weeks and so far have only heard them making cute little chirping sounds but no singing

My bird room is so overcrowded that it is difficult to pick out individual songs. Some of the waxbills have such a tiny little song that unless they are the only ones in the room, it is hard to pick it up.

My two little males, make little chirps and trills, but as Sally mentioned, among bigger and louder birds, it's difficult to tell their little voices apart from all the others.

Yeah..their voices are very light. I have sat and watched them sing to the females and its very quiet but they do sing. The male I have now will pick up a feather or whatever nesting material he can find and sing while hopping back and forth. Its so cute!

That's good to know!
I won't hold my breath waiting for them to sing like a canary

They kinda remind of a bronze wing mannikin when they sing. Its very light though and u probably wouldn't notice it unless u saw them sing.

Ok that gives me an idea of what to listen for..
I used to have a pair of Black & White Mannikins and the male had a very delicate little song he'd sing to the female.
I don't have a female Fire Finch but I'm still hopeful I will hear one of my males sing sometime!

Yayyy I just heard one of them singing!! They've probably been doing it all day long when I'm at work or whatever, but this is the first time I've heard it LOL
I did get it on video but accidentally deleted it Wahhh!!
It was so delightful to hear him, he went on for about 30 seconds - it sounded so sweet and delicate, a lot like the B/W mannikin I used to have

leo519 have you found any females for tour males yet?? My first clutch they had were all duds. Thus time they laud two eggs and one was fertile. It hatched yesterday. Both parents are still taking turns going in the nest. I hope they do well. I stopped checking the nest after the hatch. I will check the best again in a week. My pair have been very tolerant with the nest checks.

The little Fire finch that I recently set up in my new gifted cage has been working on nests--rather, he filled one hooded wicker nest, but it must not have met with his mate's approval, because now he is filling a second nest. Anyway, I have noticed that while he is in the nest arranging hay/coco fiber, he is constantly talking to himself. It is a very soft murmuring sound, so sweet. It would have been drowned out in my bird room, so I am really enjoying it now. This cage sits near my computer, so I get to hear this sound frequently during the day.

Sally that's funny. I think that's the samething with my pair. He built a nest and she laid an egg in it and decided she didn't like it so he built one in the wicker nest at the highest part of the cage and she laid the rest of her eggs in it. I didn't even know they had moved because they kept going back an forth. Now they have a baby.

No, I haven't gotten a female.. I'm not interested in breeding my finches so I have mostly male birds.. I have two Fire Finches and they sing quite a bit now.. Sally's description sums it up nicely - it's like a soft murmuring and does sound like they're talking to themselves.. really pretty little song they have!
Congrats on your baby Fire Finch!! That is so cool - would love to see pics as it grows up

leo519 I probably won't have many pics of the baby growing until its older. I don't want to disturb them while he's still young. I'm gonna wait at least a week.
