Parrotfinch going Pied at 3 yrs old.

The Seagreen male on the right started going pied a month ago. Why so late ?

That's fascinating. You mean my red heads, might all of a sudden develope some pie.... (?) Pied.... (?) Markings on them as they age, if there were some pied ancestors in their background?

Yip if they have pied genes they can develop later in their years. And probably each successive year they will develop more pied markings.
Here we refer to them as lightly pied as the gene is not necessarily super strong in them. The heavy pied are those that colour up with pied and stay that way, like your other bird.
My first RTPF I ever got was a "normal" that turned pied after a season or two. I forget how long it took for him to show the pied gene.
I had him for over 8 years and each year he got a new blotch or two, but he never went full pied like a heavy pied bird.
