As I am watching my society finch army grow and impatiently awaiting my 3' high x 6'foot long flight cage to arrive this week, I was looking at other birds to add a bit of variety to the new aviary.

When the society finch chicks are weaned I will narrow-down my flock down to 6 society finches. My little society finches are so fabulous and gentle I only want very NON-aggressive species in with them.

And OMG diamond doves look divine. Please let me know if this is not a good idea.

I have never had Diamond Doves myself, but our Dylan (Sheather), has them, and should be able to give you all sorts of information about them, and keeping them with Societies. Send him a P.M.

I could recommend Gouldians, as very sweet and peaceful in a community flight. Some of the little Waxbills, are very peaceful as well.

Im not feeling like a pro yet (not pro enough for Gouldians), they are so beautiful and sooo expensive.

And the chick-punting on the ballfield Gimme another year to get up the courage. hahaha.

I'm now addicted to the societies. Would love to add 2 male doves (no more breeding allowed)

My diamond doves get along fine with all of my finches. They will let them share their nests to sleep and not even try and push them out. Males fight eachother at times though, and can be vicious about it if they don't have space - and a cage is not space. If you want two and no breeding, get hens.

How does just getting one male sound? I really love the cooing. This sounds like a wonderful idea. I will NOT get two males as per your instruction.

Im already a nervous wreck with a society finch flock with great parenting skills.

If I get gouldians and they toss a chick, I will just lay down on the floor like a 2 year old and cry for an hour. hahaha

One would be lonely. Hens coo as much as the males.

You have all these wonderful Societies (with great parenting skills) lol !!! If Gouldians toss, (which most often is not the case because they make wonderful parents) the Socies, will raise Gouldian babies too.

Seriously though, I'm not trying to push Gouldians down your throat (I'm just making suggestions and funning with you).

If it's Diamond Doves, then it's Diamobd Doves.

Okay, so two hens it is! Of course, not until I am down to 6 society finches. Thanks sooo much for the advice. I found a breeder that often has chicks.

Gouldian finches are super sweet, full of personality. Right now I have a single orange-headed hen, Nellie, who is a little gem. She's a singleton now but if all goes well, I have a mate for her coming in this week.

If I do get a pair I KNOW I will want to breed those little rainbow farts with legs.

That's strange, I never noticed my hen cooing like my male.

My Daisy sure does. She doesn't do the tail fan display, but she calls up a storm.
