Can 2 Gouldians and 2 Strawberries live in a 4'x3'x20" cage?

I have 2 pairs of Gouldians in a large cage, and 2 pairs of Strawberries in another cage. All 4 pairs have started trying to breed, building nests and laying eggs, but the Gouldian pairs started fighting, and so did the Strawberry males, so it is time to separate them. I don't have much space for 2 more cages, so I was wondering if i can swap pairs? In other words, will a pair of Gouldians and a pair of Strawberries live harmoniously together in a cage? Even if they won't breed in the cage together, will they at least get along? One cage is 4' x 3' x 1.5' and the other cage is 3' x 2.5' x 1.5'. I'm wondering if anyone on the forum has housed gouldians and strawberries together in cages this size, and what was their experience?

I haven't, but it certainly is worth a try. I don't have Gouldians, but my Strawberries get along with most of my other birds.

Hi there.

I have housed Gouldians and Strawberries together in an F030 flight.

No problems what so ever.

However, if you don't want problems, and you don't want to breed, I would remove nests out of your flights.

If you want successful breeding, I would house each pair (no matter the species) in a seperate breeding cage or flight.

I have found, that unlike Zebras and Societies (who breed quite happily in a community setting), both Gouldians and Strawberries, do better as pairs on their own. No squabbling over nests or nesting materials, no distractions from other birds visiting etc.

Good luck.
