Greetings to all and a shout out to all who have Goldfinches I need help identifying and sexing this goldfinch. It was sold to me as a Siberian but I could not tell the difference between this and a European and its not clear to me at least if the bird is a male or female. It has never sang from the time I got it.
I have done my research and read the articles about goldfinches but because it doesn't sing and my lack of experience with goldfinches I am unsure how to proceed whether to keep it as a pet or breed it.

I have it on a Duvo Siskin Goldfinch diet but it just picks out the nijer and the sunflower hearts. Wouldn't even touch the canary seeds. Can I feed It
something else? It gets boiled eggs Monday to Friday along with some hulled sunflower and a lot of greens but it seems partial only to the succulent stems of the bok choy and some broccoli.

It looks bedraggled. Is this the season for molt? I am in California. I brought It outside because I read it needs sunlight to have the red face mask. But I am concerned that it is not eating enough.I hope you can take the time to reply I am really grateful. If I can sex this accurately then I can buy another goldfinch or another canary so I can try my hand at breeding them.

I bought this bird because the owner was closing his business. Is there anyone successful breeding Wild Siberians ? It has calmed down a bit. Ite is not banded so I suspect that it was bought off some company like Bird Express. I wonder however if it would ever calm down to breed.

Thank You all for your help.

Add dandelion greens or Kale to the diet to insure a deep red mask during the moult.
