Zebra Finches, Gotta Love 'Em....

Hello Zebra Lovers.
Just sitting here, having some ice tea, after having vacuumed my kitchen one more time.
My eyes just happened to land on Zazu, my light back (?) Zebra male. He was carrying a broccoli floret in his beak, marching up and down the flight floor. I think it was the big green thing that first caught my attention.
Getting a good grasp on it, he flew up to a perch (no easy task with something bigger than your head). Looking up, he took a big breath, and up he went to the next perch. Finally, he made it up to the seed cup that he and Zoe call their own. With great effort he hoisted this thing up and over the rim, and fluffed his feathers with a great deal of pride.
Zoe, took one look at this green monstrosity in her seed cup, said 'meep' and with seemingly no effort at all, piched it out of the cup.
Poor Zazu, just sat there, as his gift went flying downwards, just barely missing a terrified Society (YIKES! the sky is falling!!!) and rolled on the floor of the flight. The look on his face was priceless.
So what does he go and do???
Those of you who own Zebras, can probably guess
Zazu the dauntless, flies down to the broccoli floret, picks it up and.....
I just watched this scene unfold three times
Gotta love them Zebras, but they are not the brightest bulbs in the bird world.

I had to jet out for an appt. Elana, is he still trying to haul that sucker into the nest?
My doctor's assistant has two zebra finches and had to tell them your story, she said shes going to get some bags of broccoli on the way home! She said she spends too much money on tommy hay to try and keep him busy and this should at least slow him down a bit.

OMG! Fabulous story!
Zebras are just the funniest little birds. So bold and gobs of personality packed into that tiny package!
I've got tons of funny stories with my guys! (Of course none are coming to mind at the moment!)
Actually, I do have one that involves courtship.
One of my little zebra boys is simply smitten with my lutino parakeet. He follows him around, doing his cute little dance like a tiny wind-up toy.
Louise (the parakeet) typically ignores his attempts to woo him.
One day, the zebra picked up a piece of hay and was dancing and doing his best to chirp with this little piece of hay. (Which is funny, as I'd never seen this species dance with nesting before. )
Finally, success! Louise paid attention to him!....and proceeded to snatch the hay. (Loves hay)
Zebra stops in his tracks like someone hit an "off" switch.
It was like "OMG. You took my hay. I was USING that!"
So being persistent, the zebra went and got another piece of hay and got about 2 verses into his little song ---- cha-cha-cheeep....cha-cha-cheep --- and Louise snatches the hay from him again.
Again he stops, sort of stunned.
And you can guess what happened next.....he got more hay. And this went on and on, for about an hour. By the end of the hour, it was just the zebra bringing strands of hay to the parakeet, who'd snatch the hay away before he could even start his song and dance.
Oh the things we do for love!

I have a serial PLUCKER in my Zebra flight..... Urrrgggh!!! Bring in CSI, NCIS, SVU, NYPD.....
I keep getting these plucked bedraggled looking Zebras, which I pull out and put into a different flight. They grow their feathers back and turn from ugly ducklings into beautiful Sw.... well, Zebras. The next thing I know there are more uglies in the Zebra flight

It is driving me nuts ! I don't know who it is!!! If I knew, I could pull that maniac out and into solitary, making life so much more simple for everyone else.
When I watch them, they all look as sweet and innocent as angels. When I'm not watching, the evil one comes creeping out of the shadows.....
The PLUCKER!!!
When I walk into the kitchen, there are feathers everywhere, and poor birdlings with raw bald spots.
I need beak prints, DNA evidence, a stool pigeon, some one who will sing like a Canary, a feather witness, but everyone is tight beaked, nobody's chirping

.
What shall I do???
HELLLLPPP!!!
