Hello Fabulous Fincly Experts.....

I have to admit, I'm a tad confused.... and was hoping that someone can clarify.

Mannikins, Mannakins, Mannequins ????

Are the different spellings interchangeably ? Or are we talking different famies, species, subspecies? ???

I've come across same birds, referred to under different spelling here and there on line, and I need to know what the difference is , if there is a difference.

Thank you :-).

From my having owned a Bronze Winged Mannikin, I'm pretty sure that your first choice is the only correct way to spell it

Nah, not that confusing :?

From wikipedia:

Lonchura is a genus of the estrildid finch family, and includes munias (or minias), mannikins, and silverbills

The manakins are a clade (Pipridae) of unique small suboscine passerine birds. The group contains some 60 species distributed through the American tropics. The name is from Middle Dutch mannekijn "little man" (also the source of the different bird name mannikin)
