Two lots of two pairs

Hi

Would it work if I housed two pairs of owl finches with two pairs of red throated parrot finches (or if I can't get any another specie like stars or gouldians) in an indoor large flight/small aviary - 2.5' x 5' x 2-2.5'.

I was thinking two pairs because then it would be easier to sell offspring because I wouldn't have to sell siblings but unrelated pairs.

Thank you for answering

I always assume when you have multiple pairs of the same species housed together, all chick's are siblings. You can never be 100% sure that the pairs stayed true to each other, and all it takes is one time.

Here's the cage calculator that is a good general idea for how many will fit.

Says about 6 to 8 birds but it's going to depend on species and personalities.

I agree totally with debbie276, you cannot be sure that any babies are not siblings when you house more than one pair of a species together. Some finches bond quite well, but many pairs are not monogamous. The only way to be sure to have unrelated babies is to keep the pairs separate.

Welcome to the forum! There's lots of good reading at www.finchinfo.com, where there are many articles on finch care, breeding, and species compatibility. If you put your general location in your profile, it makes it easier to answer locale-specific questions later on.

If you have two pairs of each, then all babies would really have to be counted as being related.

I didn't think of that,hmm.

What about two cages, probably either 3 or 4' x 2', with a pair of owls and a pair of red throated parrot finches (if I can get any) in each cage.
