My new Gouldians!!!

Post by lnlovesorange » Tue Mar 22, 2016 2:04 pm

Hello all. I finally got my Yellow Gouldians!!! They look a little rough to me, and possibly like they may still be in thier Juvie molt? debbie276 ... need your help girl... (as usual) So I think... (remember I'm still learning.) My male is a YH/LB/YB (double factor <~not sure still learning on this SF, DF thing.. but I think it's sex linked right? so because he is Not WB (if he was he'd be visibally yellow? I'm getting there Debbie, i swear  :-SS ) also, not sure his colors seemed really subdued to be a male... and my female is a BH/YTB/LB/YB And like I said they don't look great... but they were shippped and I know that can't be fun for them... What do you guys think? Do they look a little rough? Also, can you experts look at thier feet? I attached one photo close up of the Cock's feet, they look like they have white on them... Please guys let me know (and Debbie you know I'm still trying to learn so obviously correct me if I got anything wrong, and as always.. THANK YOU) I'm so happy, trying to think up some names for them now, I think I have the girls name (not deffinite, but when I looked up "girl" in Irish, it gave me Cailin and that also means Bird, so I'm thinking I might call her Cailin) However, I will take any recommendations! Anyhow, experts let me know what yout think about their health, molt situation (think they are still molting) and any idea on age? I'm going to email the breeder to see if it's listed on thier leg bands, or if they can tell me how old they are... I have a few other choice phrases for them as well (I won't get into that right now) so I'm going to wait before I contact anyone over there so I don't blow up! LOL, but anyway, meet the new members of the family, also I am going to quarantine them for 6 weeks with Ivermectin, and worm away (they were bred/raised in FL, so they MAY have been exposed to the outside) anyone see anything or think I should treat for anything else? Again, so hello, to my new (finally) Yellows!!!! Super excited, i mean really, what's better than new birds?!?!?! =D> :D

Also asked them for a YH or RH/WB... which neither one of them is... but hey, again Debbie could one of them be split for WB? Again, finding out from the breeder, hopefully, BUT put it this way, my experience so far, I will NOT use this breeder again.... :sigh: #-o

Hi Ellen, and congratulations!

They are pretty babies.
From their nails, I would not say juvies. As to how old, I couldn't guess. Did the breeder claim that they were juveniles?

Why are you ready to blow up girl? Are these kids not what you wanted, ordered?

P.S.

Just saw your other post, I do believe your boy is a Yellow head.

lovezebs Well, they aren't, but I'm ok with that. I wanted WB, but no issues there, I'm ok with that... They never told me they were shipping them!!! I received an email stating that they couldn't /wouldn't ship until I replied that I read, and printed the Guaranty/warranty. I replied, and never heard another word, initially in dealing with them i told them I wanted delivery on Thursday 3/24 they said NO PROBLEM. Again, no email, no contact nothing . I'm at work today, and see a missed call about a half hour before I was looking (so it's 11am, and the call was from 10:30) the message says hello, ellen this is so-and-so from the post office and we are calling to tell you we have a live animal shipment here that will be going out in an hour!
Thank GOD i have a good employer that let me run out of my work, and fly home... I missed the delivery.... and had to go pick them up at the Post Office.... I was so pissed.. who does that? Ships live birds without notifying the recipient? I work for crying outloud, I had Thursday all set up... And again, they weren't exactly what I asked for... but again I'm ok with that (you know how we are Elana... we love em all!) But I don't see any #'s on thier bands to know thier age (i agree with you on the nails) they didn't "claim" they were juvies... kind of implied it, but again that's fine, I don't need juvies, but if they aren't and they aren't molting... They don't look like they are in the best shape... they claim that they are so GOOD to thier birds and give them the best diet, and they have these photos on thier website and FB of these beautiful colored birds.... and it's NOT what I got.... Again, I love them no matter what, and I KNOW with the way I treat my feathered friends they will come along, and end up being fine, and thier feathers will turn out BEAUTIFUL, (like my Ren, after his first molt with me, his colors gained so much vibrancy, and he was so much brigher) So, again I'm not really upset with any of that, just how they just dropped these birds in my lap 2 days earlier than they were suppose to (which btw, i TOLD them I was going to Quarantine them) I had NOTHING set up, my Socies are still in my quarantine cage, and they need a few more days, I have NOTHING ready for these birds, and again imagine what they've already gone through, and they had to go BACK on the truck, and BACK to the PO (which who knows if he stopped and did any other deliveries, it ain't his bird what does he care?) and then sit at the post office, in a box in complete darkness...Let's think about this people this is a living breathing being, with feelings, that can be hurt, and die.. WTF? SMH... So that's why I'm a little FURIOUS... However, thank you for asking Elana, cuz it helped, and I feel al ittle bit better! <3

Well sweetie, sometimes it helps to vent a little :P
I would contact the breeder, just to tell them that it would be better practice to contact the buyer, before shipping the birds, and ask when they were hatched.

I'm just glad that they survived their ordeal.

lovezebs Me too Elana... They will get some extra TLC and attention for a while, poor things. You should have seen me, I was a mad woman!! LOL But from the pics from what you can see, everything else on them look ok? Did you see the feet picture? Does it look like there is anything wrong, with his feet? Thanks!

From what I can see in the picture, the skin looks a bit dry. Not sure if there is anything else wrong with them..... Personally I would massage some warm olive oil into them , and see how they do.

Thank you my friend... Thanks for taking the time and checking, and for the recommendation, as Always MUCH appreciated. Olive oil the best? I only ask because I also have Coco Loro which is 100% virgin coconut oil (i add it to the sprouted seed for the gouldians and the P'Let and they LOVE IT) I think Marshall thinks he's getting people food cuz of the taste with the coconut oil it must taste sort of sweet, so he gets all excited!! LOL that's fine with me, as long as he's eating it cuz it's SO good for him... I might have to try that cocount oil on other things I can't get him to eat, or even try.... Hmmmmm :wheels turning...:

Keep in mind my eyes are not what they used to be and pictures can be deceiving.
Your male looks like a hen to me. No tailwire and the head like a hen usually has. The feet look like they have soars on them, are they red and a bit swollen? And what is going on with that beak? Does it look like it has a thin layer of the beak coming off with a really black nare? Like I said my eyes may not be so good but that's what I see in the pictures. So I would guess a RH.PB.Pastel hen in the first picture.

Second one looks like it's not done with it's molt so hard to say. It's beak looks much cleaner and feet much better though. Honestly neither looks like a male to me.

It might be a good idea to also do scaly mite treatments just in case that's what's going on with the beak and feet of the first one.

Over all it doesn't seem like there is anything that can't be improved but I'd stay well clear from that breeder. If for no other reason then the shipping issues and not even giving you what you asked for.

best of luck

Can't see well but does one or both have a long tailwire?

debbie276 Thanks Debbie, the one with the visibly orange head has a darker belly, (i thought He? looked like a female too!) Also, does the morning bird Iverlux treat for scaly mites? If not what does? The one with the visibly orange head also seems to have a darker stomach (although not in the pic i just took) but he does seem to have tale wires, he makes Peeep sounds but no singing yet. They are asleep now, so I will check closer and listen tomorrow. I will NOT use this breeder again. They answered my email that the birds are a year old, and i asked what they are split for if anything and they answered "often times our yellow backs are split to blue" ?!?!?!? Really? that's your answer for my RH/WB/YB...male, a YH/LB/YB (maybe split to blue) Hen? I will talk to the Mods and find out where I can say their name on here and tell of my experience, I just don't want to do it out right until I speak to one of the mods.... These poor birds, it's bad when people just don't treat them right, it's worse when they lie and say they do, and put up pictures of fake birds!!! UGH, btw, yes his feet look a little swollen with white on them (not bad, but they don't look good) but i thought maybe yellows had lighter feet with streaks of white... his look kind of bumpy and they do have white.... they just didn't look very good.... They're in a better place now... that's all I care about. Thanks again (i think your old eyes work just fine!)

His beak looks like it's peeling or flaking on the top.
Not sure about Iverlux but it should treat Scaley mites. Can you check with the Web site you got it from for Scaley mite directions. I think you need to apply it directly to the feet and beak with a cotton swab but not sure how often.
Watch for bumble foot, if it's feet were bruised or cut it could develop an infection, something is going on with those feet.
