A new boy or girl...and 2 brothers or sisters

Post by PedroSantos » Fri May 13, 2016 9:29 am

Hi there!

I'm pretty "green" on zebra finch breeding, so I'm posting about this young boy or girl, which left the nest only 3 days ago.

Inside there are 2 other remaining, but they don't seem so developed.

One of them tried to explore the cage, but the parents hushed him back inside the cage. The other fell of the nest and didn't fly or did anything: so I used a glove and carefully put him back inside.

Maybe you can help me figure out some more about my new and beloved feather friends.

Take care!

Congrats on the babies! Often there is one brave and more developed one that will leave the nest first to explore, and then return for another day or two. The other one may have fallen or been knocked out of the nest. You did right to put it back in.

There's lots of good reading at www.finchinfo.com, where you will find many articles on finch care, especially about the Zebra finch and breeding. Your babies will still be fed by the parents once they fledge, or leave the nest. Are you feeding the parents egg food? They need something with lots of protein for development on the babies, and egg food is one of the best for protein.
