I have absolutely NO self control

I went to the CCBA Show with 11 birds to show, and 17 to sell. Total of 28. I swore I was not going to come home with more birds than it took with me. I had pre purchased a Grasskeet that I knew I was going to be bringing home, but other than that, was sure I would not be buying any more.

Well, I came home with 27...... 5 were for other people, but yes, I was tempted and could not resist. KJ Brown had some VERY nice finches and extremely low prices. Got some Cherry Finches, a pair of Painted, and a nice Gouldian Boy. Oh, and Ivan gave me a pair of Java Finches for Sharing my Sale table with him. And I did not sell 5 of the birds I took, so It is not as bad as it seems.

Any Painted Finch, Cherry Finch, or Java breeding experience out there? Would appreciate any advice you all have.

Pictures attached.

Well Lori, what can I say....lol....when you go to a Bird Show, you don't shop at all (just like I didn't use to shop, but always somehow managed to come home with more feathered kids...)

Congratulations, they are lovely.

wilkifam I think you did quite well--took 28, came home with 27, but only 22 are yours, right? Any time you can come home with less than you took, you are ahead.

You really picked up some beauties, no wonder you couldn't resist!

I know all about "the talk". I tell myself (when I go in a pet store) don't even go in the bird section. Don't look!!! sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but anyway....you're new birdies are great!!! Enjoy!!!

Gorgeous birds! Maybe it's just as well that I haven't gone to a bird show yet; I know I wouldn't be able to walk out empty-handed :D

Beautiful finches. Love the gouldian and Javas the most. I see java finches all the time at petsmart getting them is very tempting, but the gouldian would be my downfall..lol

Lori, looks like your Plumhead hen is a fawn mutation. They are a little more attractive than the normals because the plum colour contrasts well against the fawn.

And Painteds are hearty little angels and so easy to breed even in breeding cages (at least from my experience). All my cocks put a lot of effort into building robust nests, and all my hens are good sitters (although one pair kill their chicks so we can't win 'em all I guess).

Cheers,

Ross
