So the guy who sold me the "male" canary didn’t want to exchange, he just gave me a cock bird yesterday saying that was what I paid for and he wanted me to have what I paid for, and that bird started singing this morning already.
He’s a gorgeous red agate mosaic (I think that is the color name). And the first bird is definitely a girl based on the reaction. She’s been frantically trying to figure out how to make a nest in the corner of her cage all morning. And when he sang she crouched and quivered her tail excitedly… so….
She’s not color bred so I wonder what their chicks would look like? Any idea? Here I said I wasn't going to breed and now i have a pair of strawberries and a pair of canaries. NO MORE GIRLS. lol I'm still not entirely sure I want to breed the canaries. I just wanted color and song.
Besides, my strawberries won't touch live food or egg food. It's crazy.
Anyway here are their pics.
Opal (agate?) yellow mosaic hen ?
She's hard to photo because the light color just washes out too easily and she doesn't want to stay still. Her white areas are not really white - more of a platinum silver color with faint agate markings.
The cock is a very nice dark red agate mosaic.

Oh my, but that's a different colour isn't it?
Wow, can't say that I've ever seen that dark shade before, he's gorgeous.
Sorry, I can't recall what happened between you and this breeder, did he sell you a girl instead of a boy the first time around?
What's his song like?

He's only sung
He's only sung a little bit. Mostly the rolling kind of singing was what I heard. I'm not an expert at the types of song though, and it was only about 10-20 seconds at a time.
He also seems to not like his band, though there is no irritation of any kind. He was pulling on it a bunch today.
Yes I bought the hen as a cock, in mid October, and nary a song, but she responds to singing like an excited hen and she bounces around constantly looking for a nesting spot and tugging at everything loose she can reach.lovezebs wrote: terriergal

nice mosaics.
the female is a nice yellow mosaic.
you know mixing red factor with yellow factor is not what you should be doing BUT if you have no other options go for it.
