See, Elana has this special place in her basement that she mixes up magic potions, sits with her crystal ball and makes all kind of powerful trinkets. Dont tell anyone. :-$ Bubba is the only one that actually has SEEN it. He snuck down there while she was making him a sandwich. :-$ Poor guy hasn't been the same since. 8-[

So for a long while I was lamenting that I couldnt find that one specie I wanted to add to my flock. :((

And suddenly a fairy appeared in the air in my loving room, O:-) waved her little wand over my phone, my phone lights up and I get a text message from Canada. It's from Elana, with a picture of a java for sale and an ad right here in my state. It took me about a SECOND to call on the ad and BEG [-o< the woman to not give the little fellow to anyone else before I could get there on Saturday.

He arrived today. He was only 20bucks And I just ADORE him! Elana Thank you for all the magical things you do girlie!! :YMHUG:

Meet Tux!

Babs - He is beautiful! You are so lucky everything fell into place just like it was meant to. Enjoy him!

lovezebs - Elana, could you please, please go into your basement one more time... If necessary up on the roof afterwards so you can be closer to Santa...

I give all the credit to Elana on that one. I really hadn't looked as hard as I should, work just running me ragged.

Now onto the hunt for a hen.

lovezebs

If you manage to get on your roof for Iso, you better darn well take me a picture!

If I got up on the frosty roof, I'm afraid the only picture you'd see, would be this....

Babsi, finding this guy was simple luck, that's all.

Iso, sorry, Santa said that he's all out of Javas for California (quotas and all). Maybe if you put in an early order for next year, but no guarantees.

=))

Babs - do you know how old Tux is? The lady didn't have an extra female? If you had your choice, which color would you want her to be?

lovezebs - Thanks for checking with him Elana. But darn, I always thought, from early childhood on - you know back in the dinosaur age - that the deadline for sending off your wish list to Santa was Saint Nikolaus Day (Dec. 6). Put your wish list on the window sill and leave the window open just a crack... always worked when I was little.

Hes about 2 years old. Definitely a male. First thing this morning all I could hear in the birdroom was "Pew-pew-pew" Sounded like laser in a video shooting game.

She didn't have a hen. He was housed with zebras. I really love the normals just like his color the most.

He has a white feather in his wing.
Diet shouldn't be different from other finches, though they like oat groats which I don't feed to anything else. I'll have to pick some up.

Mine are happy with the basic finch seed mix I feed everyone and a little dish of canary mix.

Thankfullyni had two pounds of oatngroats on hand for Brody (that one society that likes to dip them in water. I made him a mixture of large white millet (forgot the name), groats and canary. He must be happy. He' s singing up a storm.

He won't touch the sprig of millet. Odd? :-\

Thanks for letting me know he's split to pied! I would have never noticed.

Babs, YAY!!! I'm so glad you got your Java!! He's so handsome and yup...split to pied. His wing is edged in white. Both of mine are split. She has slight white ticking and white-edged wings and he has a random patch of black feathers on his left wing. I think that it is very rare to find a full normal here in the US. I read that somewhere but not sure if it was a for-real site or a I-make-stuff-up-as-I-go site.

Don't you love the song? They are sweet birds unless you try to trim nails or something. They will sink that big ole beak into your paws and can draw blood.

Mine adore oat groats and meal worms. They wouldn't touch spray millet until they figured out how delicious it is. Now, they devour it. I've tried safflower seeds and that seems to be hit or miss. They won't touch boiled egg but love the egg bread that I make for them. They think I'm a good cook! LOL! They also like Roudybush nibbles.

I hope you can find a sweetheart for him. My hen is sitting tight again so if I get a female, I'll have to stow one in a sock when I visit my son in VA. Just kidding. 8)

Sharon, thanks for the heads up on the safflower. My ringneck eats it and I was going to try some, but I'll forgo it now. Safflower does seem a bit much to crack open for a finch, even with his big ole beak.

I love their pew-pew song. Such an interesting contrast to my gouldians. Very excited about your hen sitting! Let us know how she progresses! Did she wean that youngster all the way? Sounds like shes turing out to be a good momma bird!

Yep Dylan, was like a java madhouse in here for a while. hee hee
