I thought they were outlawed in California.
I also noticed that this was posted in March, but who knows? Maybe they didn't sell, and maybe he knows where there are others.
@Isobea, will be so excited.

There's a big difference between a law on the books and a law in practice, and I somehow doubt most police even know what a java finch is.

Shannylee and lovezebs - Yes, I also have seen this same ad since - at least - March 2016. Very, very odd. It's always worded the same, same birds and prices. This is the Fresno ad. Usually there is also a Modesto ad (same wording, prices, etc.) also since at least March that I know of. Makes me suspicious. Is somebody out there trying to find people willing to buy illegal birds? Do the 'authorities' have time for that? Am I just being paranoid?
Either way, Fresno is about 5 to 6 hours from here, Modesto even further.
But thank you so much Sharon for trying to help me out. I sure appreciate it!
If all else fails, I'll just have to keep checking everybody's posts for new pictures and stories about baby birds once they start breeding.

Come on Iso, I often travel 5-6 hours for wanted birds!

I doubt the authorities have time to set up such traps, but if worried, you could always claim to be interested in the other birds advertised, then get the Javas if all feels right.
I think people being ignorant of the ban on a popular domesticated species is much more likely!

Javas are illegal in CA, but we all know there will be some who don't care anything about the laws. However, those who do have them normally keep it very secret, I'm surprised someone is advertising them publicly.
Javas are also shipped interstate, and no one is the wiser, but again, they are not advertised.

Sally - the fact they are openly advertised is what makes me think something is not quite up to par. And I am not about to find out what it is (if anything). I don't want them that badly.
