A curved tail is a big giveaway that Cordon Bleus are incubating. Their tails are so long that they get curved around in the nest.

Hi lovezebs ! No - the eggs were all clear - I candled them. The female was showing no interest and the male did all the brooding during the day. At night he came off though so they were not being brooded.

CoMtnGal

That's too bad, but sometimes they just need a practice run.

Do you happen to know how old they are?
Could also be too young, or too old.

Time will tell :D
Wishing you luck with them :-BD

No, I don't know how old they are - but expect around a year or so. I'm not sad about it.. But we will see if they try again. It seems like the female is gonna have to do more than lay the eggs!

CoMtnGal

As I always used to say, maybe a candle lit meal worm dinner, some fruitfly nectar, some romantic music, lol.

At times, the girls get overly enthusiastic about egg laying, and are a few pages ahead of the male who is still 'thinking about things'

Good luck with the next try.

CoMtnGal Connie, if you end up with male chicks with a small or a faint red cheek, then you will know for sure that your hen is rccb.

I once purchased a pair that were supposed to be Blue-capped, but I suspected the hen was RCCB. I did let them breed, and they were fantastic parents, raising their four babies. Two males, two hens--the males had small red cheek patches, and the hens were almost impossible to tell from a pure RCCB. I did eventually let the two males go to an older person who just wanted the color and song for pets, no breeding, but I kept the hens till they died.
