I have a mixed, peaceful, extra long flight cage with 2 male Gouldians and one Owl male. Does anyone know if a Peters's Twinspot male or female would be a good or bad idea??? No interest in breeding, just fascinated in watching and enjoying!

It's said to be an agressive species.
Individuals vary so you could be lucky, but better choose something safer.
I'd recommend a Star, for example. It's also from Australia like your current birds, so their requirements would match better. African birds require more livefood, for example.

I have the FinchInfo chart, but couldn't find Twinspots.

He also has Gold Breasted Waxbills, and I see they are very sweet and easy to keep! Hmmmmm..... they are pretty!!

Orange-breasts are peaceful but tiny.
I'd rather mix them with small waxbills.

Gouldians and Owls, can be housed with Stars and with Goldbreasts. If you decide on the Goldbreasts however, make certain that your bar spacing is less than half an inch (they can easily squeeze through half inch spacing if startled).

The Twinspots, are an aggressive species, that should not be housed with other finch species.

Thanks Elana, I read that those guys are tiny!! I have an appt. to go to a huge aviary on Sunday and look at all their birds!I'm so excited, but I wanted to know exactly what I should bring home and what I should not. They will all look beautiful I'm sure. They have SO many different finch, waxbill, EVERY different bird you can imagine!!

I was looking at the site you posted, and I would have a wonderful time there (with Bill Gates credit card, lol.)

If I were you, I would stay away from:
Black and White Mannikins
Cut Throat finches
Diamond Sparrows
Twinspots
Melbas
Saffrons
Violet Ears

All wonderful birds in their own right, but I wouldn't add them to your Owl and Gouldians.

Some good choices, would be:
Stars
African Fire Finches
St Helena's
The Blue Cordons, either the Red Cheeks, or the Blue Capped (but only 1 male of either, as males don't tend to like each other)
Yellow Bellied Waxbill (Swee)

Anyway, have fun, tell us all about your shopping spree, and take lots of pictures.

Lavenders are wonderful birds, beautiful with a very interesting personality!
They are peaceful too, though can become a nuisance in a mixed breeding community.
And they are hard to breed, so even if you buy a male and a female (they are hard to sex visually), chances are you won't have to worry about them breeding.
Helenas are charming, cute, but less interesting for behaviour.

I keep both.

I agree that the Lavenders, are lovely.
They are not as flashy as some of the others, but very elegant looking birds, that always tempt me when I see them.

However, if my memory serves me right, don't they get a little touchy if and when they're breeding?
