I know this is not a finch, but I thought it was a beautiful picture. Anyone lucky enough to have these visit their backyard ? I sure wish I were !!!

Whoe! That is one wild looking bird. Looks like a fancy kite they fly in the springtime.

lol !! You are right fancy kite exactly!!
I saw the baby and fell in love with this picture !! The photographer was either very good or very lucky to get that picture at just that moment.

Yeah, about 2 years ago I had a visit from one in my backyard.
Looked somewhat different like in this picture.

Yes they are !! I have been trying to find information as to how that chick gets on the tip of that twig, it looks so young. Not finding much information online.

I am very glad a member has had the opportunity to see such a beautiful bird. We do not have any of these that I am aware of in my area of the world.

Those videos were adorable and answered my question

. Watching those babies almost jump out of the nest when the parents approached was priceless !!! Thank-you so much for the links.

I don't have them in my backyard, but have seen 3 species in the wild so far:
Asian in Malaysia and Idonesia
African in Ethiopia
Malgasy in Madagascar
As for captive ones, only seen a male for sale in Indonesia once, sold for a crazy price.
But I wasn't tempted anyway, knowing that flycatchers are difficult to keep even by softbill standards.

I sure envy you

. I would love to be able to see one in the wild, but it will probably never happen. I will just have to be content to look at pictures and videos.
