hello everyone
i have a yellow carduelis carduelis it is mutant and i wanna know its gender , according to my knowledge about ordinary carduelis carduelis it looks like its a femmale but im still so confused because some times i think its a male it is realy hard for me to find out gender of this bird help me please

yellowfinch - I too love the unusual coloring. Where do you live? Who did you get this bird from? Could it be a hybrid between a goldfinch and a canary?

What a beautiful bird! I'm not familiar with this breed, but generally speaking, the males are the big singers. If it has a long and complicated song, it's probably a male. If all you get is a few weebs and beeps, it is probably a female.

If it's important to know, there are places youcan mail a feather from this bird for DNA testing, and get a guaranteed answer.

MisterGribs - yes, they can certainly hybridize and are great singers.
What throws me is that this bird has a lot of yellow on his body. That is pretty unusual.

Interesting looking bird.
Although I am a lot more familiar with Canaries, than Goldfinches (which are not very common around here), I have seen hybrids between Goldfinch and Canaries. I have also heard of Goldfinch hybridizing with Green Singers, but have never seen them.

It's pretty much impossible to sex your bird from a picture, sorry.
As was already mentioned, the males should sing, the females chirp.

Can you give us a little more history of your bird?
You have me quite curious about it.

It looks like a male goldfinch to me.
The red mask seems to extend beyond the eye.
Its a beautiful specimen! I would love to own the yellow mutation. Where did you find it? Are you in Europe?

I went to Google images and entered 'European goldfinch mutations'. Found some similar pix which led me to Pinterest. More pix there marked 'yellow agate'.
