I am not saying that healthy should be sacrificed in any way for shape, or size, or that which is biologically incorect, creating unhealthy, grotesque freaks, but would you not agree that there is a happy middle ground, when people breed simply for different colour mutations within a species?

Of course many mutations are harmless and give much pleasure to owners and profit to breeders.
But as you had earlier said, to all their own, and I mostly prefer wild colors. There are a few exceptions. I quite like penguin zebras and green-yellow pied lovebirds, for example.
Unfortunately the fondness for mutations has in many cases lead to the original form getting very rare in aviculture. In my home country it is getting more difficult to find pure wild color Gouldians than say white-breasted, and wild color red-throated parrotfinches than pied ones.

I would not say colorless Gouldians are in the same class as animals with physical deformities.

Hairless cats aren't unhealthy either in a household setting but I agree, the aesthetic is.... not to my taste.

Yes, the Gibber Italicus is a physically deformed animal, ugly and quite disabled.

I wouldn't call it ugly or grotesque, but would feel sorry for the bird. I would hope that no one would breed birds to be formed in that way on purpose.

Regretably, these poor creatures, are bred that way on purpose.

For the life of me I can't understand why anyone would create such a poor creature and continue to perpetuate this breed.

Those canaries are really a bunch of cripples.
They can barely stand or move around.

And the German Shephard was one of the dogs I had in mind when mentioning what breeding for "beauty" has done to dogs earlier. It is all the more scandalous as they did it to what may well have been the very finest breed of working dog, with a great natural shape similar to the wild ancestor. Couldn't all those breeders just play with poodles, bulldogs and the like???

They did it to Buldogs as well.

The original Bulldog, was a medium sized dog, who was powerful and proportionate in build.

Now look at todays Bulldog.....

An animal which can hardly breathe, can hardly walk, who cannot naturally reproduce, who cannot naturally give birth, who drowns if dropped in water, and which has more health issues than you can count.

A dog believed to be similar to the (now extinct) white bulldog of bygone days.

How about these pigeons? I think they're both part of the owl breed. The short beak makes it difficult to eat, while the tiny head looks disproportionate, unbalanced, and simply maladaptive. The first one also has minor foot feathering; while this is a very popular trait in fancy pigeons, the feathers tend to get soiled and damaged due to pigeons spending much of their time on the ground.

While there are many beautiful pigeon breeds, there are many others that look downright wrong...
