Replacement for my lost fawn finch, a white Society finch!

Post by FinchGrinch » Sun Mar 12, 2017 10:37 pm

As I previously posted I lost my Fawn Pied Society hen the other day. The other night my daughter told me there was a white Society finch at Petsmart. Today I went to Petsmart to see for myself and had to have her! ( a she, I think)

I observed the cage for quite some time and was able to pick out one singer, the others, including this one did not sing, so I assume for now she is a she, but we all know how that goes.
I have not named her yet, suggestions would be appreciated.

From what ive been reading, this one is not an Albino due to the dark eyes, but rather what is called White Pied even though there are no other colors but white.

From Zebrafinch.com "THE ALL WHITE "Dark eyed" SOCIETY------Believe it or not, the Dark eyed White Society is not a self, even though it is all white, it is a pied bird. Thats correct, the Dark eyed White Society is actually a Pied Society, which does not have any colored patches. These all white birds are produced whenever heavy Marked White Society finches are bred to each other. Often two heavily Pied "Marked Whites" will produce 25 to 50% all Whites in a nest. If two Dark eye Whites are inbred the majority of the offspring will be Solid Whites, but not all. Often times crossing two all White will produce an occasional Pied offspring."

Turn towards home, and go there. Many overs, over woods and fields, streams and hills, many overs. Just turn towards home. How else would one go there? Perhaps it was a dream, and you have awakened from it. May the earth rise up beneath you, with home in your heart, and your person waiting.

What a lovely little bird.

I wound up naming it Q-tip, this way if it turns out to be a male, it will still fit. I try to name all of my Societies neutral names just in case :)

It's certainly unique and fits him/her well! I doubt anyone could forget Q-tip's name :)
I've had my share of eccentrically-named pets, too. Right now I have Finch the Finch, Whitehead the Vengeful, Macbeth, Laser, Rainbow, Tacocat, and two other unnamed birds. I used to have a snake named Angel and green anoles named Fluffy (a male), Fluffy the Great (also a male), Timmy (a female), and Timmy the Second (also a female).

She's beautiful, I always wanted a white society, a few weeks ago almost had one, but the owner changed their mind. I also like the name, it's a good choice.
