Who to cage together

Post by sparrowsong98 » Thu May 25, 2017 9:05 pm

Ok so I intend to expand to a 3 pair cage at some point. The combos I was considering are: 2 zeeb pairs with one society pair, or 2 society pairs with one zeeb pair. Which one would be best? Does it matter? and also, should I just throw all 3 pairs in the cage right out of quarentine, or should I slowly introduce the 3 pairs to the new cage?
I currently own:
An Australian shepherd
Many chickens
4 goats
A cat
And a bunny

Two society pairs with one zebra pair would be better, as zebras are far more likely to be aggressive. I introduced all my birds at the same time, but slowly introducing them can reduce stress. In this case, the society finches should be put in first; introducing the zebras first may lead to increased aggression as they will believe the cage is their territory and any new birds are intruders.

I would not house Zebras and societies together. I would keep them in separate cages.

Icearstorm Ok. I was kind of leaning towards that anyway. Do you know a breeder in like the west PA/East ohio area or one that has cheap shipping?

I have no idea. If you wait for a bird show, you can get lots of birds for cheap, though.

Icearstorm ok. I am just not interested in paying 22.50 for ONE pet store bird, so I decided to find a cheaper option.

Bird show society finches are about $10; I even got a nice chocolate self male for $7. I imagine zebras go for a similar price.

2 pairs of Zebra's in the same cage can cause issues specially if there is a nest. I hear that 3 pairs in an cage is ok as long as there is no nest and the cage is large enough.
