Lilac breast Gouldian male turning white - what's up?

Post by Stephanie » Fri Oct 10, 2008 8:15 pm

Hello

My Lilac breast male Gouldian Finch is moulting out white-breasted this season. Is this common/typical?

He has always been a healthy-looking bird either way, but I thought the Lilac was a genetic fixture...no?

Could he be short of some kind of colour-enhancing nutrient?

Thanks.

As I understand it the lilac is still a big question mark. Some consider it to perhaps be a "dirty" white that they'll molt out of. I have a couple, and am keeping an eye on them to see if the color will be maintained after they molt a couple of times.
