I bought a society finch the other day, and I was sure it was female because it made the same chirp sound as my other female, with the 'r' sound. Then it began to sing when it heard the birds outside...
So now I'm sure it's a male now, but...

Only male Societies sing, so I would say your new bird is a male.

Kinda the same question....... I got two society two days ago. I separated them today in different cages...in the same room but where they can't see each other. One is chirping it's head off all day and the other is quite and calm in the it's own cage. The one that is upset is chirping I really wouldn't say its singing. Its a loud chirp and it's very upset even hours after being separated. Would you think it's a male?
