Ok I have a few questions. first, can two java finches go in a cage with one pair of zebs and one pair of soc`s? I found some on craigslist and am toying with the idea. second, does anyone know what the current laws regarding java bans are? the birds are in a neighboring state, and I am wondering if they can come into pennsylvania.

Shared space? Depends on your flight size. Unless it is a huge aviary I wouldn't put any birds I liked in with zebs.

It may still be illegal to ship Javas across state lines but has anyone ever heard of someone checking? go for it. If questioned tell any inspector they are society mutations.

Javas will stand their ground - zebras will not bother them.
Javas are legal now to move between states, there was recently a confirmation on that.

I've heard javas can be nasty with other finches if yours are quite timid put them in I have society's had many and can't see them causing any trouble where as zebs on other hand they can try to start on something much bigger and stronger and get hurt just keep and eye on first I would put all the males male java male society male zeb for few days in together then all the females separate then add them all in so they have met

But not with the pair with them as they can be territorial when the pair is there

Babs well, I will continue saving for that larger cage then. Hopefully, they will still be up for sale in a few weeks when I get the money.

I had a pair of Java finches in a flight cage with societies and Gouldians (currently separated for breeding). The Javas used to growl at the other birds, but were otherwise tolerant; the others eventually learned to keep their distance. I haven't bred the Java finches, and wouldn't recommend doing so near other birds.

They seem to prefer thick perches, so have some thin perches away from the thick perches so the smaller finches can get away. Stress perches could also be good.
