I'm a beginner at Java's, but what you can see from the above posts are javas are intelligent and very different in personalities. They aren't going to follow a plan with you like some species.
Like Icestorm said......you have to have a plan B, an extra flight in case it doesn't work out. And as Dylan mentioned...all his javas differed dramatically
My java was housed with bossy zebra, and your potential java with societies.
Your java either could say "hey!!! my people!" or "HEY I can RULE here! I'm bigger than everyone and I know all the tricks"....then run the societies into a life of fear.
I would be more apt to take the java if it was female. They are more docile.
And yes, my javas can hull buckwheat. They get it daily and devour it.

Re: Some species questions
Did u ever see them again after they escapedSheather wrote: My first pair of Javas, which escaped, were pretty aggressive to other birds and couldn't be caged with them, but my favorite pair of Javas which I adopted later - and those I had the longest - were basically species-blind with society finches, would sleep in the middle of their flocks and feed their babies. It was adorable, and they were like the leaders of the flock and wouldn't settle to sleep until everyone else was safely tucked in for the night.
The third pair were indifferent, but not aggressive in any way.

That's what my plan B was; I had the quarantine cage available for temporary housing. Fortunately I didn't have to do anything past that.

Re: Some species questions
Babs if I got that Java it would be purchased with the same soc's it currently lives with, so that might help.

LOL!!! You can't resist a shot at a java finch either! I understand. Now I'm going to be up to my eyeballs in them! And I am loving it!

Re: Some species questions
Babs nope. I really cannot. There is a pair, but very far away (3 hours) and no pictures in the ad, so I would hate to drive up there, not like them, and have to go all the way home again for nothing.
