I pulled the Java kids, video

Post by Babs _Owner » Sat Sep 30, 2017 9:00 pm

I had two Java pairs in one standard flight. And all was fun and games, until my Tux decided he would start trouble.

So out of the single flight came Charm and Tux so the remaining pair could raise their clutch in peace. Which they are doing a fine job of parenting.

So that meant Im raising yet another clutch of finches. The red -eyed kiddo is with this handful.

Excuse my nest of hair.

Tux shoving his face in the others nest cause he's bored (he stands watch but doesnt help feed with Charm)

The other female gettting pulled by Tux trying to rape the other female by dragging her to the ground (after she has a clutch) by her legs, for mating.

(he was housed with zebras so go figure). ,

Constant arguing and intrusive behavior by Tux when their kids hatched.

List goes on and on. I love this guy, but he's a hot mess. The other clutch is going strong and I have yet to build the other cage with a divider for when they have clutches at the same time.....

They are adorable! How old are they in your video? They look so big and are certainly not shy about asking for more food.
Still wish they weren't illegal here.
Good luck with them Babs!

Hi Iso,

Are you sure they're still illegal?
I believe I heard something somewhere, that they have lifted the ban in some States.

They are 31 days old and fledged yesterday (which is why Im not feeding them in the brooder)

I removed their parents from the group flight a few weeks ago and the parents didnt resume feeding afterwards. I was a bit disapointed. But I should have had both pairs set up in the 6-foot doubleflight before allowing breeding, so I could put the divider b/t the breeding pairs if needed.

So Babs fumbled the ball and had to take on the kids.

They are super cute and fly to me for feedings. <3 I'll enjoy it while I can. Im sure once the big flight is put up and they are reintroduced to the java flock, they will go wild again .

Iso, like Elana mentioned...find out if they are legal in your state. I will have 5 available between the two pairs. Sally could teach me how to ship them if I'm allowed. I'm going to keep two between the clutches for my final pair.

Keep them separate. Javas stay tame and make intelligent pets.
If you hand-raise them, they are worth a lot to sell too.
I have always wanted a tame Java, and if you were to ship, I might even be interested.

I'll be keeping the fawn. A friend of mine here in Virginia wants the other two (just found out last night before your post). :(

The other 4 Javas are being raised by their parents and we both know those kiddos are going to be wild. They are too big to pull and hand feed now.

Im not sure people in this state know the value of this species and how rare they are here. The young lady who I bought Charm from gave hers to a pet store and they've been sitting there for over a month.

She's since stopped breeding.

Once I get the doubleflight put together and the kids are all gone, I can pull a few from the next clutches and handfeed those for ya. ;)

Can you research a bit and let me know if its possible? I'll be working all week.

Babs
oh Babs they are beautiful.
once again javas show how inteligent they are. in that age i dont think other finches would allow hand feeding, but them.... they are different story.
Im glad they're doing great.
Try to keep that little dilute guy, so that you can actually breed that mutation not as a surprise :D

The funny thing is when they leap onto my chest they actually jump up to my lips sometimes wanting me to regurgitate for them. hahaha

Im baffled by how they know my lips are my mouth?! Seeing as I dont have a beak.

I am definitely keeping the little red-eyed wonder.

@sparrowsong98

They are super cute for sure. <3 And LOUD!!
