what kind of finch is this?

Post by gouldian_finch » Fri Oct 06, 2017 3:02 pm

I bought a pair of finches today, the guy sold me the birds, told me they are diamond java sparrow... However they do not have huge beak of normal java sparrow. I think they look like some kind of mutation of zebra finches, however, their size is slightly bigger than zebra finches

you can compare the size of them with the star finch in the pic

the male has the dark ring around neck, while the female does not, she is the one standing besides the star finch, same colour as the male but white chest

They look like some kind of diamond firetail mutation.

Ah, I think you maybe right, I google "diamond firetail silver", the result look very similar. I thought they are some kind grey mutation of zebra finches

it is also called diamond sparrow, so the owner was kind of right of about the name, he also said it is very expensive bird, normally cost around £80 per pair
