Sheather

Well after reading through yer informative post Dylan I have to say that yes ok there probably is some kind of Logic in what yer saying,

As yer rightly say that many people around the world are often quite different to others in the way that their birds are kept, it's just that because some people get fixated into certain ways of keeping birds and is also the same way as to what many others would appear to keep their birds that makes it seem perhaps a little strange to see others across the globe do completely different,

Yer wording does actually make sense Dylan and end of the day I can't really argue in how people wanna keep there birds, it's just me mate because sometimes I just simply find certain things like this a little strange because for the majority of us here in England it's just something that we tend not really do, well ok maybe people's pet birds but not us breeders,

I suppose like as mentioned it's a case of each to there own

I knew you'd get a kick outta that. ;) That's Midget's cage in my office.

He's pretty much blind. He can only see blurs of color.

As for being a "stupid idea", it turned out to be a great solution for boredom for him.

The bright colors stimulate what little sight he has....draws him to the objects and the plastics clanking and the bells tinkling stimulate him with their varieties of sound.

He especially enjoys experimenting with sounds. Without proper eyesight, audio stimulation becomes even more important.

This wasn't "silly" or "over the top" .....it took a few months of carefully observing him all day by my desk as I worked, analysing how his eyesight was impacted.......then finding the solution to improve his life. :-B

Without toys, he really would have much less of a quality of life.. And he's several years old now, singing daily and having a good time daily with "toys".

My Java finches are intelligent and as curious any parakeet. They enjoy toys and bells as well.
After reading that Babs I'm inclined to actually agree with you here, I really do think that's a very good idea in this case and am pleased to here that yer Gouldian is responding to these toys, " honestly never thought I'd say that " :D ....lol

If the bird is blind then yea I fully agree that he obviously needs something to stimulate him and can clearly see the sence in what you've done :-BD

You mention yer Java's playing with the toys, if yer birds have been hand reared they've then grown to become exceptionally tame and then automatically become trusting and aswell as becoming playful with there owners to some extent, this I can clearly see where the playing with toys and such like would clearly fit in,

End of the day Babs if yer birds are happy then I suppose that's obviously gotta be the main thing

Apologies if I've appeared to be a little out of character but am just trying to get me head around all of this birdie toy business as it's something that many of us breeders here are not really familiar with :-??

Debate is a Universal language. All of us learn from each other. Sometimes a debate is truly a catalyst of learning.

I learn from you too. The mix of seed I have special ordered every month is YOUR recipe you posted last year.

I've reduced hemp to treats only, as per your advice. My chubby parrot and javas thank you for that.

My birds FLOURISH on your seed diet.

It doesnt stop there..........Elana gave me the first courage to feed a newborn finch...and she is no sissy when it come to admitting failure as well as successes when it helps others overcome mistakes (and I am humbled by her honesty)....encouraging others to help our finches find pleasure in various vegetation. exploration and natural nutrients.. Debbie taught me how to deeply watch, clear my mind and meditate on my gouldians to troubleshoot breeding problems, which has lead to breeding sucesses that far exceeded my goals. Dylan has given me the courage to try free-flight with a few javas in my office ! Sally stands behind us all with cheers and hugs no matter how tired she is.

I'm only dipping my toes in how much I've learned from other members and how we all can truly impact each other admitting our successes and our failures, tried and true ways, and embracing new exploration

This, my friend is a place to do it all and more......the common ground we all meet on is the Love of Our Finches . :YMHUG:

I guess I will never be a "specialist finch breeder" lol, but tell that to my happy 'very special' and breeding finches :)) .

Live and let live, and never stop learning !!!
Hi there Elana,

I'd just like to say that in a few posts back I classed yer as not exactly taking yer seriously as a breeder, to be perfectly honest with you I really do actually wish I could " edit " this and delete those words #-o

I'll actually hold me hands up and clearly state that I was indeed wrong for making such a strong statement X_X

Yer obviously very much entitled to have yer opinion on such things and I know needs to be respected and this also applies to anyone else,

I do hope that " SALLY " also see this as Sally only quite recently had sent me a rather long post via PM about various issues which I've also now read, listen to and fully understood which I do believe that yerself, Babs and Delray also received the same post addressed to me from Sally,

If this is OK please accept my sincere apologies :YMPRAY:

Elana I did state that I was admittedly wrong and over stepped on a few issues, however I did apologise directly to you but haven't received any form of acceptance or understanding and such like,
I'm just hoping that yer not still peed with me :(
