Odd Color Java is male and molting

Post by Babs _Owner » Wed Nov 15, 2017 10:49 am

My girl red-eyed "girl" Valla is starting to sing. #-o We renamed Valla to Valor. Some brown ticks are coming up on his head.

Valor below. Parents on the bottom. Still have no answers on how I got this mutation from the parents below.

What a pretty little boy.

I'm so curious to see how he feathers out in tge end.

In regards to how come this chick popped out of these parents :-?? . There must be some throw back mutation in one or maybe both, which is not visible to the naked eye.... like my son coming along with red hair :shock: .

I was a bit shocked its a male, as there is no "cap" difference of color on the top of the head. Even in fawn juvies you can see a difference on the top of the head, like the cap on the normals.

The only thing I can think of is mom /fawn (which I know) and dad is split/silver (maybe?)

He, his bother and sister are sitting on my head (ballcap) while I work right now.

Cute mental picture :D .

The parents look normal in the picture (?)

His head colour can still change, especially with those spots coming in.

I remember my guys got all sorts of spots, that eventually grew and connected to form their colours as they matured.

Oh good. I'm hoping his spots turn into a nice brown cap, or we are gonna have to label him a spotted light fawn/opal red eyed pied whatcha-ma-call-it. ;))

I think they will eventually form a cap, as to what colour.... your guess is as good as mine, lol.

He looks fawn to me.

There is a great variety in how young Javas look. Some come out solid colored, some have vestiges of their adult markings. The head looks like its going to molt out brown.

Valor looks like what my fawn Java looked like when she was a fledgling.

She was adorable though a bit timid, and it was a shame to see her lose the solid coloring. She now looks like what Fraza just posted.

PS. I didn't think about documenting my Javas when I got them last spring, so forgive for not providing evidence.

Dragonwolf1989

Does your girl have red eyes? Thats what is throwing me off. I only see creams and opal isabels (dilute fawn) with red eyes. I cant tell in the pictures I've poured through if the regular fawns have red eyes. And the primary java website resource looks like its almost been abandoned or inactive.

@Sheather

I have never felt so impatient waiting for a bird to color up as this one.

@Fraza

That is a regular fawn. Sure is a nice looking Java!
