Java’s ? This question determine so if inn getting a pair

So I’m going to the pet shop I got darky and ginge from as he has white ones and I think fawn like a creamy colour for £30 pound a pair, basically I know nothing about them but heard mixed stories of them being good and not good

So are they okay to go in an aviary with society’s and zebras
I only have one society that is not from and aviary and that’s quite timid all my others actually bully the zebras yep surprise I know but what do you guys say will they be okay with my flock

This Sunday I’m going if not am just gonna pick up a few Societys

You know Fraser, I have found them to be quite mild really.

Right now my 2 are housed with 3 pairs of Zebras, and the one crazy Parrot Finch, without any major issues.

They are pretty, intelligent, and can be tamed (although mine are not).

Ask Babs about them. She has a batch of tame youngsters right now, and will be able to give you more information about them.

My two Java finches are fine with my societies and gouldians, so long as nobody is breeding. Since you have an aviary, and the space that comes with it, it is feasible to breed the Java finches in the same enclosure.

My breeding pairs of javas are not housed with other finches. They have their own 6 foot flight (just finally put up). So I am not sure I can be of help with mixing them with other species.

I will be housing them only with their own species.

I have handfed 3 babies all in the same clutch and all day long they sit on my head (my hat so they dont poop on me), peck about my desk and ride the tops of my fingers while I type on my work computer.

My work days have never been more enjoyable, and I will not give up these 3 kids for the world!

These are large finches with HUGE beaks able to hull seeds, my other species wont even attempt, so you would have to gauge the personality of your Javas. They are strong birds.

I'm certainly no expert on Javas, I'm new to them myself. Keep in mind, your aviary is only big enough to fit so many birds. ;)

Babs hi I’ve atually read all your threads about your Java Babies and they are amazing it’s you and elena that has made me want a pair and my aviary is suitable for atkeast 50 birds and I only have 15 I’ve got 9 society’s and 6 zebras so would you say they are okay and for the price I may just get a pair and if it doesn’t work out I will have to get rid of them

The only reason I’m more positive is because 4 of my zebras are large zebras bigger than normal size they are about the same size as Java’s

And then most my society’s have came from an aviary and I only have one that are from pet shops and then one coco is very feisty anyway so I’m certain he won’t get bullied anyway

So what do u think even if u are a beginner you have more experience than me

Icearstorm okay that’s made me better about it I’ve just got one zebra that tries to be a bully but am certain the Javas will put him in his place as coco does and he’s a society

lovezebs are they easier to tame than zebras cos I’ve managed that so maybe I can try with one of these and it’s actually you that’s persuaded me to get a pair

I haven't tamed my Zebras or my Javas, so I can't offer advice in that department.

They are more intelligent than your smaller finches, so I should think that they should tame if you have the patience (which you obviously do).

I would give a pair a try in the aviary. Like you said, if it doesnt work out you can remove them.

The 3 tamed I have , I handfed and they are easy to tame that way. The mature javas I have purchased are terrified of me more than any finch I own.

They are however a lot of fun to watch and infinitely curious. You'll enjoy them.

Normals are my favorite. Fawns my second favorite.

Make sure the breeder has their genders right if you want a male and female. ;)

Right now I have a Silver (male?) And a Normal (female?)

The Fawns and Whites, are quite beautiful... I would get one of each, but as Barb said, make sure that you get one of each gender. Personally I find them hard to tell apart.

lovezebs hmmm yeh I’ve been looking at that it seems hard is there not a difference in sound of there chirp because this is how I find it easiest with society’s I play a video of coco and then see which ones are preeing then I get them cos I know they are a girl however that beak thing looks easy to tell but probably harder when in person

Babs yeh this is the only thing he isn’t that skilled at gender well especially with society’s as he never knows but he has them in good condition so that’s why I like his birds am gonna have to try and identify them my self
