Near adult now. The beak has turned silvery-blue, the tail is fully grown, all feathers are there and the white upper-tail coverts are showing now.

Fernando

They sure look like they're enjoying themselves :D .

Do you raise your own green millet, or collect it for them elsewhere?

I have sown the 'exotic mix' I get over here for my finches, because I wanted to know which seeds are mixed in there. The first to sprout and flower is this Setaria spp., I think it could be Setaria adhaerens, that is bristlegrass. Many species look alike, so I'm not sure if this id is correct.
There are other grasses growing, but still far from spiking.

Wild grasses other than Setaria are growing now, and each time I go walking I have a close look if there are seeds already. But it is too early, as the rain came late this year. Only found old spikes of Piptatherum and the owls went crazy!

First read, than write.

Of course it is a millet, and of course it is not ripe, it is green. As I gave a picture and the probable latin name, there is no doubt.
I never spoke about 'Green Millet' =Pearl Millet, Pennisetum glaucum; I try to do my homework before writing in a language which isn't my first.

When Spring comes, I'm going to have to sow some seeds outdoors and see what they do. Right now its's still
