might sound stupid but what’s a single factor pied society

Post by Fraza » Sat Jan 06, 2018 5:45 pm

I like the self society’s and have two of them a cock self fret pearl and a heb which is self chocolate society and to breed them with pied ones and get a self out of them I know I need a single factor pied and I have a few pied but unsure if they are single favtot ????

Could someone describe or add a picture of a single factor compared to a normal pied one  :?:

It’s a struggle here to find selfs and the reason I want to breed the male and hen to pied instead of each other is so I can keep the self hens of the female one and then I can keep the cock selfs of the male one and breed them so they aren’t related this way I can keep them and start selling my pied [-o<

This link is identical to my female self :http://www.hwbbs.co.uk/resources/_wsb_4 ... r+2013.JPG
And the pic below is my male :

Hey, no question is stupid here! This is what our forum is for ;)

Unfortunately, I do not know the answer to your question, but I think you may find what you’re looking for in some of our older topics. You can use key words with the search button on the top right. There is a wealth of information you can find!

Single-factors often have some color left on their chests; they seem to be under 40% white.
Here are some single-factors I used to have:

If I were you, I would buy pied birds with hardly any white, like this one. They are more likely to be single-factor pieds.

Adult single-factors often have belly scaling.

Double-factors are usually around 50% white. Saddlebacks often have more white than this.
Here are my previous double-factors, probably saddlebacks:

However, there are exceptions, so it's hard to know for sure.
This bird was almost certainly single-factor pied, but looked more like a double-factor:

Fraza

If the white ones have dark eyes, then they are double-factor pied and will not produce any self offspring. Your birds are probably dark-eyed whites.

If they are albino and have pink eyes, then it's probably impossible to tell if they are pied without breeding them, though they will pass on a recessive albino allele (not the same gene as pied/self).

There's also another red-eyed white, sometimes called a cream ino. I don't know much about these, but it says that ino is sex-linked recessive, and decended from self birds. (Whether or not the gene affects the pied gene, I don't know.)
