European Goldfinch

Post by goldfinchowl » Sat Aug 25, 2018 10:00 pm

I'm am a novice birdkeeper.

There is a breeder near me that sometimes sells European Goldfinches.

Any info on them I would greatly appreciate.
Especially personal experience with them
And how well they do together
And with other birds

Are they loners like canaries?
Are they too aggressive to be with society finches?
Any birds they do best together with? Need to avoid any birds can't be with?

2 males together?
2 females?
Female and male together year round or only during breeding time?

goldfinchowl - I believe it was andiok who posted extensive info on goldfinches before. I've tried to find it but for some reason can't right now. You can use the search engine on the bottom of the page to find many posts about European goldfinches. Also, there is a very extensive post by batuhan called 'All about European goldfinches' from Oct.27, 2009.
Good luck with these birds. I've kept them in a mixed outdoor aviary with no problems on and off since 1989 (first with South American siskins, now with waxbills and other finches).
