Good evening,
I have a one year old orange cheeked waxbill. Every night, he sings his delightful little song for a few minutes right around dusk form his favorite perch. Just this month, he has taken to going to the opposite corner of the cage, perching on the floor or a very low perch and sitting there singing a very quiet song that goes on for several minutes at a time that is much different than his normal song. It is very distinctive as it is very quiet and melodious and goes on for much longer. He is housed with a female lavender waxbill. She often will go down to where he is softly singing. Is this a courtship behavior? If so, will two different species mate? I don't provide nesting materials, so I don't think there will be any eggs?
Best,
Dan
