Yellow Headed Gouldians but their Color is Orange.

Post by Misso » Thu Dec 11, 2008 9:35 pm

When First getting into Gouldians, i got confused with the Term Yellow Headed Gouldian, when the Mask Appears Orange. Even Breeders would advertise OH/PB/GB (ORANGEHEAD/PURPLE BREAST/GREENBACK).

Iv seen this picture a thousand times on the net. and this Yellow Headed Gouldian is just that. a YELLOW Headed Gouldian. i am yet to see a Gouldian with this Bright Yellow.

i have also put this pic which all my Yellow Headed Gouldians Mask Color's are.

Comparing the two pictures it is visibly clear the differnce in Color.

Im posting this because i would like to hear from others about their color in their Yellow Headed Gouldians. If they have any that match the first Picture.

And how would one go about breeding a lighter Yellow in the Mask???

All my OH Gouldians have masks the colour of the second pic. I don't know how to breed for the colour of the first pic. I've read that "yellow" and "orange" terms are interchangeable when relating to Gouldians.

That first picture is a fine example of a yellow head. You will see most like the second picture. You Can tell they are both true yellows by the tip of the beak as well.Meaning if put with a yellow tip beak hen the offspring should be all yellow? That's how i believe it works anyhow.

Actually all yellow headed gouldians have a yellow tipped beak since they are not capable of converting the yellow carotene into red which would include the beak tip.

Yes that is right.Do you get a black tip yellow head ?I will have a closer look at mine tomorrow only have a few yellows in g/b.
Have done a little more research. From what i read yellow headed gouldian hens are always pure yellow in the green backs. But yellow headed cocks can be splits as well? Can the cocks have a black beak?I think i have seen them with black colored beaks ,but cant be sure.
Maybe you can educate me a bit more, and get my head in the books :?:

No, all yellow heads will have yellow tipped beaks. I'm speaking about the cocks. The hens can have gray/black beaks.

Are you asking if a yellow headed cock can have a black beak or a black tipped beak? I've never seen either.

You can have split to yellow head in either sex.
