From your experience with different species of finches how would you rate them in order of loudest to most quiet. Also from most pleasant to least pleasant call sound too. This could be helpful information for others deciding on a new type of finch to keep.

This is a difficult question to answer, as we all have different likes and dislikes--what pleases me may be very annoying to the next person. I absolutely love the song of my male Gray Singer, but some might consider it too loud. My male Green Singer also has a wonderful song, quite loud. The Singers require a little more care, so I have to balance that against the song--for me they are worth it. My Strawberries and CBs are next on the list for being loud, but again, wonderful songs, so I don't mind a bit, they can sing all day for me. For soft songs, you can't beat the Stars and Gouldians. My Greenbacked Twinspot has the most unusual song, but it doesn't bother me. I can honestly say that I don't think there is a finch call or song that I find annoying, I am intrigued with all of them. Some find the meep-meep of Zebras annoying, but I even love their songs and calls.

I am with Sally, I love them all.

From loudest to softest, I would say..... strawberry, courdons, parrot finches, owls, gouldians, and stars. I can hardly hear the gold breasted....

My Societies are louder than my Gouldians if anyone is counting them. I rarely hear my Stars and have not heard my Fire Finches yet.

Good thing we aren't listing the Forum posters in the same manner....I just know PoohBear or possibly MickP would be on top of the list!

Black masked grass finch. Very pretty, about the size of a society but sleeker. Quieter song, similar to Gouldian I think, and very pleasant. Very calm, peaceful bird, but not seen much here in Canada.
